The car as a 20th century icon lost its image a long time ago as a vehicle to conquer distances. According to Gillo Dorfles’s theory, “man in every epoch creates his ’bearing animal’. Man shows equal concern for his dog and his car (he washes them, takes them for a walk, polishes/brushes them) in a way that he never, or almost never, does to his children, wife or friends”.
The car, as well as man, becomes the modulor in the planning of towns and landscapes.
